The State Government Affairs Conference (GAC) is the biggest and most important annual legislative event for Wisconsin credit unions. Every January, credit union Activists from all over the state travel to Madison and meet with their lawmakers to ensure that credit unions and their members’ voices are heard.
Many young professionals haven’t had the opportunity to attend this important event or meet with lawmakers to talk about credit unions before, so we’re working to change that!
The State GAC is held on January 22-23, 2013 and we’re kicking things off early by hosting a special Advocacy Training Workshop for young professionals at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21. The workshop will feature an education session on credit union activism and discussions with state legislators and experienced CU advocates. This workshop will help young professionals understand how to be an effective credit union advocate and why this is such an important role.
$99 is the special registration fee for YPs, which includes attendance to both the workshop and State GAC (nearly half the regular registration price). In addition, a discounted rate of $89/night is available for YPs to stay at the Madison Concourse Hotel. The discounted hotel room will only be available through Dec. 23 and you can book your room by calling (800) 356-8293 and requesting the “Young Professionals” room block.
Anyone looking for more information should check out our GAC event brochure on www.theleague.coop/calendar or email me.
Advocacy is one of the credit union industry’s top priorities and by attending, you’re showing your management that you care about your credit union and the members you serve. This is important work and an awesome learning experience, so we’ll hope to see you there.

I think the dates listed may be wrong…Monday for the Training workshop should be January 21st, and the GAC is on the 22nd & 23rd, 2013. Thanks!
Thanks for catching that, Katy! Dates have been corrected.
